Lecturer / Senior Lecturer University of Florida
The Department of Applied Physiology and Kinesiology (APK) at the University of Florida (UF) is seeking applications for a full-time lecturer/senior lecturer faculty position. The Department of APK (http://apk.hhp.ufl.edu/) currently enrolls approximately 1000 students (900 undergraduate, 100 graduate) with 18 full-time faculty members. APK students are highly motivated and engaged learners. The primary responsibilities of this faculty position may include, but are not limited to, teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in the areas of biomechanics, motor control, and/or motor neuroscience. The biomechanics and motor control / motor neuroscience community at UF is exceptional and collaborative. Faculty research and instructional areas of interest span orthopedic, neurologic, neuromechanics, aging, and cognitive-motor interactions. Instructional excellence is supported by university, college, and departmental mechanisms such as the Office of Faculty Development and Teaching Excellence, in-house course design consultants, lecturer promotion and merit pay plans, conference travel, summer teaching opportunities, and instructional grant opportunities. This is a 9-month, non-tenure track faculty position; however, summer employment opportunities exist. Although the primary duties for this position are instructional, involvement in service at the department, college, and university levels is also expected.
Applicants must have a Doctorate or terminal degree in kinesiology, biomedical engineering, neuroscience, physical therapy, or a closely related discipline. We are seeking individuals who are passionate and enthusiastic towards both teaching and student learning to empower our students to make impactful economic, cultural and societal contributions, consistent with the UF mission. Additionally, applicants should possess good communication and social skills. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. In addition, UF offers an outstanding benefits package. Anticipated start date is January 1, 2018 or August 16, 2018.
Review of applications will begin October 2, 2017 and continue until October 30, 2017. Applications must be submitted online at http://explore.jobs.ufl.edu/cw/en-us/job/502953 and include: (1) a letter of application with a statement of career goals, teaching philosophy, teaching interests and experience; (2) curriculum vitae; and (3) names, mailing addresses, e-mail addresses, and telephone numbers of at least three references. Other evidence of teaching effectiveness such as teaching evaluations, teaching awards and/or other credentials may also be submitted on-line. Please send email inquiries or nominations to Dr. Demetra Christou, Chair of the Search and Screen Committee, at ddchristou@ufl.edu.
