The Henry M. Jackson Foundation (HJF) is seeking a Research Physical Therapist to provide research support in the Military Performance Laboratory (MPL) within the Center for the Intrepid (CFI) at the Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC), Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to military medical research.
The mission of the CFI is to provide state-of-the-art care for severely wounded service members, assisting patients as they return to the highest levels of physical, psychological and emotional function. The MPL provides injured service members with the best technology available to precisely analyze and interpret movement dysfunctions. Personnel from the MPL provide clinical gait analysis services, conduct research to improve patient care, and provide education and training in leading-edge care and rehabilitation of the severely wounded service member. This is a full-time position in direct support of research protocols. The incumbent will play an integral role in the conduct of studies to evaluate and improve physical performance in individuals with lower limb trauma using different techniques, such as: computerized motion analysis, physical performance measures, and virtual reality.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: 90% of time
1. Coordinate efforts with MPL study team to implement novel assessment and treatment protocols.
2. Recruit, screen, evaluate, and enroll potential patient subjects for inclusion in IRB approved protocols.
3. Plan, monitor, and progress a patient subject through a treatment.
4. Modify treatment as required and consult with study investigators regarding study planning.
5. Coordinate activities with study team to include the completion of all research and clinical documentation in accordance with JCAHO, IRB, and facility standards.
6. Assist in collecting and analyzing biomechanical data, physical performance measures, and questionnaires.
7. Synthesize session results, generate reports, and communicate with referring healthcare providers.
8. Attend meetings, aid with necessary public relations and keep abreast of new physical therapy techniques.
9. Assist in summarizing and distributing study results through conference and manuscript submissions.
10. Provide physical therapy services for inpatient/outpatient clients to include, but not limited to, screening and evaluation, treatment planning, treatment re-assessment and revision, patient/client re-evaluation, discharge planning and documentation.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: 10% of time

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of physical therapy techniques, materials and equipment to include evaluation and treatment interventions for individuals with extremity trauma. Computer skills to include proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point programs.
Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Doctor of Physical Therapy (D.P.T.); however candidates with the requisite experience and a Master of Physical Therapy may apply.
Minimum Experience: 1-4 years of clinical research experience preferred; however candidates with experience as a Physical Therapist and a strong desire to contribute to research may apply.
Physical Capabilities: Long periods of standing and sitting; bending; may involve lifting of patients.
Required Licenses, Certification or Registration: State licensure in Physical Therapy and must be able to obtain and maintain clinical credentials at BAMC. Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support, or obtain certification within one month of hiring.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Controls: Works under the supervision of the local HJF supervisor to achieve contracted objectives. Technical and procedural problems and plans relating to accomplishment of assigned tasks are resolved independently or through consultation with MPL or CFI personnel. Provides guidance and supervision to physical therapy assistants.
Work Environment: The work environment is that of clinical motion analysis laboratory and virtual reality training simulator located in a teaching and research hospital. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work is also performed in an office setting with adequate lighting, heat and air conditioning.
