The UCSF Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science is recruiting faculty at the Assistant/Associate/Full Professor level.
The applicant will conduct funded research and will mentor students in the PhD in Rehabilitation Science program, which offers two areas of specialization within the field of rehabilitation science. The Clinically Informed Neuroscience specialization was developed based on the increased prevalence of neurodegenerative diseases (e.g. Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease), stroke and traumatic brain injuries (TBI) in the US population. The Musculoskeletal Biomechanics specialization was established to address the increasing prevalence of arthritis in aging populations with chronic disease. Teaching responsibilities will be aligned with the applicant’s area of content specialization.
Candidates must have a background in basic, clinical or translational research. A strong research record as an independent investigator is essential. This includes evidence of publishing in peer-reviewed journals and having the potential for grant funding through the NIH. We prefer applicants who have experience teaching, mentoring, and advising entry level DPT graduate students. The incumbent will work cooperatively with a multidisciplinary team for teaching, research, and grant activities, and will collaborate with other investigators in procuring external funding. Applicants who have a proven ability to develop collaborative research programs and will contribute his/her expertise to the research component of the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science are favorable. This faculty member will also play a role in mentoring junior investigators and fellows, and teaching graduate students, and will serve on School and University committees. Other areas of responsibility will be negotiated based on the applicant’s strengths. Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent degree from an accredited university.
The Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science is one of the departments in the School of Medicine, and has 19 core faculty, 150 DPT graduate students, and 46 Volunteer Clinical Faculty. The Department also operates two large faculty practice clinics, and a Health and Wellness Center, with a total of 130 faculty and staff.
