    San Francisco State University, Department of Kinesiology invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Biomechanics beginning August 2018.

    The department seeks individuals with a background in Anatomical Kinesiology and Quantitative Analysis of Movement, with a specialization in Biomechanics.

    The mission of the Kinesiology Department at SFSU is to enhance the theory and practice of Kinesiology and educate students who can apply their knowledge and skills to physical activity contexts such as sport, pedagogy, exercise, performance, rehabilitation, & activities of daily living across the lifespan and for special populations, such as individuals with disabilities or chronic diseases. The department has about 800 majors and offers two bachelors’ (Exercise and Movement Science, and Physical Education) and a master’s degree. The department embraces an interdisciplinary approach to Kinesiology.

    Qualifications: Candidates should have an earned doctoral degree in a sub-discipline of Kinesiology related to biomechanics and anatomical kinesiology.     Teaching experiences with a diverse student body and with courses with on-line components are desirable. The successful applicant will have demonstrated an ability to work within a multidisciplinary, team-oriented unit within a multicultural and diverse academic setting.

    The candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in biomechanics and quantitative analysis of movement. Secondary expertise in teaching anatomical kinesiology and rehabilitation is preferred. The successful applicant will have demonstrated excellence in teaching, program advising and scholarship and provided evidence of the ability to establish and sustain an independent line of research and secure external funding. Interest and ability to extend expertise into the community is expected.

    Candidates must be able to demonstrate how they have or will incorporate inclusion, diversity, and educational equity in their courses and/or scholarship/creative works.


    Responsibilities: The position requires graduate and undergraduate teaching in Biomechanics, mentoring and advising graduate and undergraduate students, developing an active ongoing scholarship program in one’s area of specialty, and ongoing committee and service assignments.
