  • PhD in foot neuromechanics at the University of Exeter & The University of Queensland

As part of a new scheme to fund collaborative research between the University of Exeter (UK) and The University of Queensland (Australia), a generously funded PhD scholarship is available to applicants from the UK, Australia and Internationals. The candidate will ultimately receive a dual PhD from the two institutions and will get to spend significant time at both universities.

Project overview – The PhD candidate will broaden and strengthen a current research collaboration investigating the biomechanical and neuromuscular function of the human foot during running. The overarching aim of the project is to advance our understanding of how the human foot interacts with different surfaces, loads and footwear. This will help inform better shoe designs that more effectively support feet to help reduce injuries and improve athletic performance. Click here for further details on the project

The supervisory team – The primary base for this project will be in Sport & Health Sciences at the University of Exeter, with supervision from Dr Dominic Farris (currently at UQ, moving to U of Exeter) and Dr Sharon Dixon. A significant portion of the project will be undertaken with supervision from Dr Luke Kelly and Prof Andrew Cresswell in the School of Human Movement & Nutrition Sciences at the University of Queensland.

Funding - The successful candidate will receive excellent funding with full tuition fees paid, a stipend of £15 000 per annum, travel expenses of up to £15 000 across 3 years and further research expenses of £3000 over 3 years

The candidate - Applicants should be highly motivated and have, or expect to obtain, either a first or upper-second class BSc (Hons) or Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (e.g. Exercise science, kinesiology, biomedical engineering, rehabilitation sciences).

To apply complete the online form . You will be asked to submit some personal details and upload a full CV, supporting statement, academic transcript and details of two academic referees. Your supporting statement should outline your academic interests, prior research experience and reasons for wishing to undertake this project, with particular reference to the collaborative nature of the partnership with the University of Queensland, and how this will enhance your training and research.

Applicants who are chosen for interview will be notified on 21 September 2017. Please quote reference 2671 on your application and in any correspondence about this studentship.
