  • Postdoctoral Fellow – University of Pennsylvania – Bone Mechanobiology

    A postdoc position is immediately available in Dr. X. Sherry Liu’s group @ Mckay Orthopaedic Research Laboratory, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA (https://www.med.upenn.edu/orl/liulab/). The research program is highly interdisciplinary, employing approaches of experimental and computational biomechanics, micro computed tomography, molecular imaging, and genetically modified rodent models to explore the mechanisms affecting mechanical functions of skeletons at different length scales.

    The postdoc researcher will work on a project funded by NIH to examine the roles of parathyroid hormone (PTH) receptors in osteoblasts and osteocytes on regulating modeling-based bone formation in response to intermittent PTH treatment and external mechanical loading.

    Requirements:
    1. Ph.D degree or graduating Ph.D candidates in bioengineering, mechanical engineering, cellular and molecular biology, or a closely related field;
    2. Excellent organization and communication skills and scientific writing skills;
    3. Preference will be given to applicants with prior experience in musculoskeletal biology and bioengineering, lab animal handling and maintenance, and basic cell and molecular biology techniques.

    The position is available immediately. The initial appointment will be a two-year period with an annual performance review at the end of the first year. Continuing appointment beyond the two-year period is also possible based on available funding and mutual agreement. Salary and compensation will be in line with institutional standards and follow the NIH guidelines.

    Interested candidates should contact Dr. X. Sherry Liu (xiaoweiL@mail.med.upenn.edu) for initial inquiries. A formal application should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and the contact information of three references in a single PDF file.
