    Description: The Muscle Morphology, Mechanics, and Performance Laboratory (3MAP Lab) is located at the Washington DC VA Medical Center, and linked to the Georgetown-Howard Universities Center for Clinical and Translational Science (GHUCCTS Consortium). 3MAP Lab and Howard University are currently conducting a VA-funded clinical study regarding the assessment and treatment of age-related muscle dysfunction. The Research Assistant duties would be largely in support of the data collection effort at the DC VAMC Clinical Research Center site.

    Essential duties associated with the open position include completing functional assessments, assessing muscle strength using dynamometry, and proctoring training sessions involving eccentric mode progressive resistance exercise. Additional duties include administrative laboratory tasks, data management, and assistance with study coordination.

    Required Qualifications: Candidates considered for this position require:
    • An earned degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related Movement Science degree (those with a background in Bioengineering or Clinical Research Administration are welcome to apply).
    • An ability to manage multiple projects in a complex medical center environment.
    • Excellent organization and communication skills.
    • Basic competency with word processing, citation referencing, and spreadsheet programs.
    • Completion of CPR and CITI training for clinical research upon hire.


    Preferred Qualifications: Candidates with some of the following qualities will merit strong consideration:
    • An earned graduate degree in a relevant field of training.
    • Previous experience with clinical trials or exercise-based interventions.
    • Working knowledge of study coordination tasks and clinical research compliance issues.
    • Previous experience with data collection involving load cells and isokinetic dynamometers.
    • Strong analytic abilities, with specific skills concerning statistical analysis and/or image processing (e.g., ultrasound and CT scans).
    • Competency using Labview, SPSS, and ImageJ.
    • Strong verbal and written scientific communication.
