Instructor of Exercise, Sport & Movement Sciences (ESMS) within the School of Health Studies (SHS). Position #: 001189 A teaching load of 4-5 course sections (12-15 credit hours) per semester is expected. Courses may include Exercise Physiology I and II, Exercise Testing and Interpretation Lab, Advanced Strength Training and Conditioning, Exercise and Special Populations, and Introduction to ESMS. Supervision of student interns is expected. Oversight of the graduate teaching assistants delivering our ESMS 2015 course is expected, as is oversight of our resistance training facility and our ESMS teaching lab. Involvement in our Sport Performance and Health Consulting Center (SPAHCC) with regards to assessment and consultation is desired. Although primarily a teaching position, service to the school, university, and profession is expected. |
A minimum of an earned Master’s degree is required (doctoral degree preferred) in Exercise Science or a related area of study. The ability to teach lower and upper division ESMS undergraduate courses (e.g., Introduction to ESMS, Exercise Physiology, Advanced Strength Training and Conditioning, and/or Exercise Laboratory Testing Techniques) is required. Current certifications in any or all of the following are desired: NSCA® Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist, ACSM® Certified Exercise Physiologist, ASEP® Exercise Physiology Certified. Effective oral and written communication skills are strongly desired. Candidate must meet eligibility requirements to begin and continue working in the United States at the time of appointment. |
The School of Health Studies (http://www.memphis.edu/shs/) offers the B.S. degree in Health Studies with concentrations in Dietetics; Exercise, Sport & Movement Sciences; Health Sciences; and Healthcare Leadership; as well as the B.S.Ed. degree in Physical Education Teacher Education. The school also offers the M.S. degree in Health Studies with concentrations in Exercise and Sport Science; Health Promotion; and Physical Education Teacher Education. A second M.S. degree is offered in Nutrition with concentrations in Clinical Nutrition; Environmental Nutrition; and Nutrition Science. The School also maintains an extensive University-wide physical activity program. There are approximately 1000 undergraduate and graduate majors within SHS. The University of Memphis is recognized by the Carnegie Foundation as one of two public research universities and the only community engaged public university in Tennessee. It has a diverse population of approximately 21,000 students including approximately 4,000 graduate students. |
