Research position in astrocyte and neuron mechanobiology

Laboratory of Ocular Biomechanics, University of Pittsburgh
The Laboratory of Ocular Biomechanics at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking candidates for a research position on mechanobiology of astrocytes and neurons. The goal is to understand the effects of mechanical insult on cell function and dysfunction. Specific duties will include cell culture, development, optimization and use of devices for mechanostimulation, imaging, interpretation of results, and preparation and presentation of manuscripts and grant applications.
The candidate must have experience in cell culture, and a strong record of publication in peer-reviewed journals. Experience on mechanical stimulation of cells or axons, or on the study of cytoskeleton or axonal transport would be preferred. Experience in ophthalmology is preferred, but not necessary.
While a PhD in bioengineering, neuroscience or related fields is preferred, the position is open to any candidate with the relevant experience.
The incumbent will work within a collaborative team of engineers, clinicians and basic scientists, with high productivity and a strong record of extramural funding from national and international sources. There will be the opportunity for the incumbent to develop his/her own scientific ideas in the rich environment of the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine and the Fox Center for Vision Restoration.
