Competitive candidates should have a specific interest in one or more of the specialty areas of biomechanics and neuroscience, including, but not limited to, gait mechanisms, neuromuscular control, neurological impairments, rehabilitation, or motor learning/development, with applications across the lifespan from pediatrics/adolescence to older adults.
The ideal candidates will have a research agenda that leverages our core biomechanics/motor control and learning laboratories. Available key equipment includes a Motek gait system, V-Gait 3D instrumented split-belt treadmill and Virtual Reality system, multiple force plates, Delsys EMG, and Vicon motion capture systems. These are complimented by a departmentally-controlled, 2,500 sq. ft. exercise training facility along with core physiology laboratories to support a range of biochemical assays, metabolic rate, body composition (DXA), and other assessments.
There are numerous opportunities for collaboration both within the Department and across the College of Education and the University. The Dell Medical School and the Dell Pediatric Research Institute provide outstanding access to clinical populations across the lifespan. The Exercise Science faculty is highly interactive and maintains multiple strong collaborations with faculty in education, nutrition, biomedical and mechanical engineering, pharmacy, neuroscience, medicine, public health, and psychology.
