  • PhD in stretch-shortening cycle muscle function at Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany

    Position description / Responsibilities
A PhD position is available at the Department of Human Movement Science / Biomechanics in the Faculty of Sport Science at Ruhr-University Bochum (RUB), Germany. The position is for three years with a start date in January 2018. The PhD position is associated with a research project entitled “Contractile, elastic and neural contributions to stretch-shortening cycle (SSC) performance”.
The project will investigate human neuromuscular physiology during SSC contractions and will involve in vivo neuromechanical testing. The primary aim of the research is to understand how the history dependent properties of muscle and the associated neural modulations contribute to increased performance during SSC contractions.
For further information / informal enquiries please contact Dr Hahn (daniel.hahn@rub.de).

    Required Qualifications

Applicants should be highly motivated and have, or expect to obtain, an excellent BSc (Hons) or MSc degree in sport science, kinesiology, biology/physiology, neurophysiology, or a related field.

    Desired Qualifications

Candidates with experience in human experimental work including dynamometer testing, electromyography, neuromuscular stimulation (muscle / nerve stimulation, TMS) are encouraged to apply. Strong technical skills in data processing and analysis using software packages like Spike2 or MATLAB are highly desirable.
RUB seeks to increase the number of women in areas in which they are underrepresented. Therefore, we particularly encourage qualified women to apply. RUB further aims to hire more people with disability and also encourages them to apply for research positions.

    Funding
