The University of Virginia, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, is seeking applicants for a Research Associate position at the Center for Applied Biomechanics (CAB).
Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering, with a focus on biomechanics and at least 2 years of demonstrated experience with each of the following (may include experience during graduate work):
Preferred applicants will have experience in solid mechanics (including finite element analysis), data acquisition systems, analytical dynamics, kinematic analyses using rigid body motion transformation, device design using CAD software (e.g., Solidworks) and will have a working knowledge of human anatomy and physiology. Preferred applicants will also have a demonstrated record in publishing in scientific journals, presenting at scientific conferences, preparing project reports, and assisting in the writing of grant proposals. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
Responsibilities will include managing and supervising various research projects related to injury biomechanics (including both experimental and computational-focused projects). This will include supervising mechanical and biomedical engineering graduate students to various degrees, from educating new graduate students on experimental techniques to supervising and supporting senior graduate students in executing projects for which they are responsible. The candidate will also manage and supervise all Vicon-related activities at the CAB, including Vicon resource scheduling, setting up Vicon for new experiments (including troubleshooting), and educating graduate students on the operation of Vicon and the analysis of data generated. The candidate will also have an active role in the design and execution of the experiments involving cadaveric materials.
Other duties include direct involvement in project development and planning (including assisting in the writing of grant proposals and interacting with sponsors), academic publishing in peer-reviewed conferences and journals, presenting research findings at research conferences (domestic and international), and collaboration with academic, industrial, and government research partners.
