A full-time engineering position is available immediately within Harvard Medical School's Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital (Cambridge Campus). This position is funded through several active grants that include the Department of Defense, NIH, and private foundations.
The INSPIRE lab is dedicated to developing technologies to improve function in persons with catastrophic injury to their nervous system. In particular, the lab is studying technologies that trigger endogenous mechanisms of neural plasticity and subsequently improve recovery in persons with spinal cord injury. Research goals are being addressed through human experimentation with electromyography, motion capture, force sensing technology, and robotics.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in one or more of the following areas: advanced programming (i.e., matlab, C++, JAVA, Unity), robotics, control systems. Quantitative and experimental skills in human movement science are favorable. The candidate will have no less than a bachelor's degree in engineering with a minimum of 1 year experience in an academic lab or industry.
The work will be conducted in an interdisciplinary research environment composed of physiologists, clinicians, neuroscientists, and engineers. In addition to the primary research program, there will be a number of opportunities to interact and collaborate with faculty in Harvard University’s Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Harvard and MIT’s Health Science and Technology Program, Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, and others across the metro-Boston area.
