  • PhD opportunity, Physical Activity Classification, Poitiers (France)

A 3 year PhD opportunity has become available in the Team « Robotics, Biomechanics, Sport, Health » at the Institute PPRIME, in Poitiers (France).
The salary will be in accordance with university regulations for academic personnel.
Interested parties should email a CV and cover letter to Dr Laetitia Fradet (laetitia.fradet@univ-poitiers.fr).

    AIMS OF THE PhD
One aim of the PhD is to propose, implement, and test a new approach for physical activity classification. This new approach proposes to use the subject specific kinematics pattern corresponding to the physical activity in order to classify the PA. This PhD is in the continuity of a work started in the laboratory, proving the proof of concept of this new approach.
The second aim of the PhD consists in developing the system to be used to perform this PA classification in daily-life. A sensor network (inertial measurement units for instance) would have then to be built.
The proposed methodology and system will be tested in two different configurations: in clinical settings and in daily life conditions.

    SKILLS
Signal processing, bio-engineering, programming (matlab, c++), data communication.
Knowledge’s in human locomotion are welcome.
Fluent in French and/or English – written & verbal.
