JOB OPENING: Research Assistant
JOB SUMMARY:
The successful applicant will be responsible for supporting Sports Surgery Clinic’s clinical service and research activity in biomechanics and motion analysis. This is a full-time position in the Sports Medicine department. It is intended that successful candidates will be eligible for PhD funding after 12 months subject to eligibility criteria and interview.
ABOUT SPORTS SURGERY CLINIC
Sports Surgery Clinic (SSC) is Ireland's leading private orthopaedic and sports medicine hospital. Our goal is to offer patients a single lifetime location for all their musculoskeletal requirements from initial diagnosis to return to normal daily activities and sport. The Sports Medicine department is at the forefront of clinical and applied research in the field of athletic groin pain and anterior cruciate ligament injury and the 3D Biomechanics Laboratory sees over 1000 patients each year. The new SSC Sports Medicine, Biomechanics, Rehabilitation and Research Centre, which opened in June 2017, has enabled expansion and development of our capabilities.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform and oversee data collection, ensuring integrity, documentation and organisation of collected data.
- Process biomechanical data in preparation for further analysis.
- Ensure a high quality of care towards every patient tested in the laboratory.
- Undertake regular system checks on laboratory equipment.
- Undertake basic research tasks as required and collaborate on research projects with other department staff.
- Assist with the training of Biomechanics interns as required.
- Continuously review procedures to identify opportunities for improvement in our service.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in sports science or a related scientific discipline with prior experience in biomechanical data capture.
- Ability to work successfully in a team to achieve goals with a high level of attention to detail.
- Research experience and practical knowledge of research principles.
- Analytic and decisive thinking with the ability to prioritise, adapt and manage time.
- Strong organisational, interpersonal, verbal and writing skills.
- Working knowledge of universal precautions and safety guidelines.
- Ability to handle confidential information.
- Ability to represent SSC in a mature and professional manner.
- Commitment to translate the organisation's vision and values into day-to-day activities, behaviours, and decisions.
- Experience processing and/or analysing data in MATLAB would be desirable but is not essential.
