    Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking candidates for a non-office ergonomics position. The position will be responsible for performing ergonomic evaluations in office and non-office settings. Employee will also be responsible for working with management and the ergonomics program lead to identify current and emerging ergonomic issues that impact segments of the LANL workforce. Employee will also be expected to be familiar with the contents of and staff our Non-Office Ergonomic Demo Room. The position will also require giving presentations on safety and ergonomics to LANL employees.

    What You Will Do
    Occupational Safety and Health Division is an Environment, Safety and Health (ADESH) Directorate multi-disciplinary and cross-functional organization with a focus on integrating health protection and health promotion services and programs for the Laboratory to enable mission success. The Ergonomics, Health, and Wellness (EHAW) Team is part of Occupational Health, whose mission is focused on creating a safe and healthy workforce through injury prevention and health promotion services and programs. This position will be housed within the Ergonomics, Health and, Wellness team and will customers needing office and industrial ergonomics services.
    Reporting to the EHAW Team Leader, this position will be responsible for: performing ergonomic evaluations in office and non-office settings. Employee will also be responsible for working with customer’s management and the ergonomics program lead to identify current and emerging ergonomic issues that impact segments of the LANL workforce. Employee will also be expected to be familiar with the contents of and staff our Non-Office Ergonomic Demo Room. The position will also require giving presentations on safety and ergonomics to LANL employees.
    This position is required to promote safety, security, and quality in all operations; promote teamwork within and across the Laboratory; collaborate with other members of the EHAW team, and promote a positive work environment while delivering exceptional customer service.

    Duties
    • Perform non-office evaluations involving employees who perform manual materials handling, machining, electrical, plumbing, construction, etc. work. This includes evaluation, assisting with obtaining loaner equipment, training employees on equipment use as needed and follow up to ensure employee comfort, productivity and satisfaction.
    • Perform office evaluations in a variety of settings including standard offices, control room and receptionist areas.
    • Work with management and the ergonomics program lead to track injury trends, prepare for upcoming regulatory changes, and anticipate ergonomic issues with new jobs.
    • Staff the Non-Office Ergonomics Demonstration room showing equipment to customers, assisting with tracking items on loan to customers and assisting with ensuring equipment is properly stored, charged and maintained.
    • Providing educational presentations and training related to ergonomics practices.


    What You Need
    Minimum Job Requirements:
    • Five years prior experience in ergonomics, physical therapy, kinesiology, occupational therapy, sports science or related fields
    • Experience managing small projects were one or more team members must coordinate skills to deliver a product or service to a customer
    • Experience performing evaluations of manual materials handling, machining, electrical, plumbing, construction, etc. work.
    • Scientific/regulatory literature research skills
    • Skill in the preparation and presentation of ergonomics or health related scientific research and its practical application to a diverse audience
    • Knowledge of and experience with patient advocacy and occupational health issues including protection of patient health information
    • Strong organizational skills across multiple projects simultaneously
    • Professional demeanor in dealing with management and employees
    • Effective communication and negotiation skills
    • Ergonomics certification such as those provided by the Board of Certification in Professional Ergonomics (AEP, CPE, CEA), Certified Ergonomic Evaluation Specialist, Oxford Research Institute (CIE, CAE) or similar

    Education: Bachelor’s degree or greater in ergonomics, physical therapy, kinesiology, occupational therapy, sports science or related fields from an accredited university

    Desired Skills
    • Computer modeling experience (AutoCAD, Solid Works, etc.)
    • Experience with ergonomics in glovebox (biological and/or radiological) and/or laboratory (pipetting, microscope, etc.) environments

    Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter.
