The Department of Kinesiology at The University of Texas at El Paso invites applications for a tenure-track assistant or associate professor position in Biomechanics. The Department of Kinesiology has a history of excellence in interdisciplinary research, teaching, and community service. The Department offers a BS and a MS in Kinesiology and is part of the College of Health Sciences Interdisciplinary Ph.D. Program. Currently, the Department enrolls more than 1000 undergraduate majors and about 30 MS students. Faculty members have successfully secured external research funding and are involved in projects related to teaching and learning; gait; age-related fitness and athletic performance; obesity and diabetes. The Department has ongoing collaborations with local school districts, hospitals, Texas Tech University Health Science Center and other universities, and several UTEP departments including Physical Therapy, Biology, and Engineering.
The Research Laboratories: Kinesiology has four research laboratories related to Exercise Physiology, Fitness, Biomechanics, and Neuro-motor Control. All laboratories contain state-of-the-art equipment. In reference to biomechanics, The Stanley E. Fulton Biomechanics and Motor Behavior Laboratory is equipped with 3 mounted AMTI force platforms, a portable force platform, a 4-camera Vicon Motus 3-D motion analysis system with automatic digitizing, a new Vicon real-time motion capture system, an 8-channel tethered EMG system, a 16-channel wireless EMG system and much more. Related to Biomechanics research, the Virtual Reality and Motor Control Laboratoryis equipped for investigations of fine motor control (Wacom Digital Touchpad with Movalyzer software), upper extremity control (custom arm bar system), full-body motion capture (8 camera Optitrack Prime 13 with Motive software), visual preference (PLATO Occlusion goggles), and balance (AMTI force plate).
