Postdoctoral Fellow in Foot & Ankle Biomechanics and Biplane Fluoroscopy at the VA Hospital and University of Washington, Seattle, WA, USA

The Department of Veterans Affairs Rehabilitation Research & Development Center for Limb Loss and Mobility (CLiMB), Seattle, WA, has a position open for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in foot and ankle biomechanics and biplane fluoroscopy. The appointment will be made through the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Washington. The candidate will work at the Veterans Affairs Hospital under the guidance of Dr. Aubin and in collaboration with Drs. William Ledoux, Joseph Iaquinto, and Bruce Sangeorzan.

This position requires a Ph.D. degree in Biomechanics, Kinesiology, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. The candidates should have a strong interest in working with multidisciplinary teams (engineers, orthopedic surgeons, and clinicians) and will be expected to publish scholarly papers, attend conferences, assist with grant writing, as well as mentor undergraduate and graduate students.

The major responsibility of the candidate is the execution of a research project that aims to determine the efficacy of conservative treatments for ankle osteoarthritis. The project will use our state-of- the-art biplane fluoroscopy system to measure foot and ankle kinematics while participants ambulate with rocker bottom shoes or ankle-foot orthoses. Specific responsibilities are the collection of data from subjects during experiments, the processing and analysis of that data, and developing improvements in the biplane fluoroscopy data processing and analysis pipeline. Candidates with prior experience using motion analysis, biplane fluoroscopy, or medical image processing are encouraged to apply.

Interested candidates should send an application, assembled as a single PDF file, consisting of a motivation letter (explaining research interests, goals, and qualifications), a CV with full list of publications, two or three relevant publications, and the email addresses of two reference (expected to supply letters of recommendation) to Dr. Aubin <paubin@uw.edu>. Applications will be processed as they arrive until the position is closed. The position is for two years, with an expected start date around January 2018.
