The Posture and Gait Dysfunction Laboratory, led by Dr. Daniel Peterson at Arizona State University is seeking a new doctoral student through the Exercise and Nutrition Science PhD program in the School of Nutrition and Health Promotion.
Our laboratory focuses on postural control in neurological populations. Specifically, we are interested in how neurodegenerative conditions impact posture, and how interventions can improve postural control in these populations. The successful applicant will focus primarily on a project related to postural control in people with multiple sclerosis. However, the laboratory is also involved with projects related to neuroimaging, Parkinson’s disease, and cognition as it relates to postural control.
Excellent students with a background in exercise science, biomedical engineering, rehabilitation/physical therapy, or kinesiology are encouraged to apply, and will be considered for full funding through a teaching or research assistantship. The funding source for research assistantships will be through the Department of Veterans Affairs, and thus applicants, if accepted, may be subject to a background check.
Potential applicants must have earned a master’s degree prior to admission, and it is preferable that they have completed a data-based research thesis. Applicants with previous journal publications, high GRE scores, and excellent interpersonal and writing skills will be prioritized. Experience with computer programming (e.g. Matlab) is also highly desirable.
Applicants must meet the University and the doctoral program’s admissions criteria for the PhD degree in Exercise and Nutritional Sciences (ENS) at Arizona State University. As noted previously, all applicants must have earned a master’s degree. In addition, applicants must have completed a graduate level research methods course and a graduate level research statistics course prior to admission. Top candidates will be asked to submit a full application to the ASU Graduate College which includes GRE scores, a six to ten page writing sample, and all transcripts.
