Established in 1998, the Department of Physical Therapy at UNLV is housed with the School of Allied Health Sciences along with the Department of Kinesiology and Nutrition Sciences and the Department of Health Physics and Diagnostic Sciences. ROLE of the POSITION
This is a full time, 9 month position for one faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor and two faculty positions at the rank of Associate or full Professor which will be filled within the tenure track or tenured. Primary responsibilities include the development of a program of research leading to publications in refereed journals and procuring external grant support for this research. There is some teaching associated with the position but the primary focus of the position is on a program of research. This position may also require mentoring and advising responsibilities in a newly developed Interdisciplinary Health Science PhD program in Rehabilitation Sciences. Additionally, this position will be required to participate in university, professional and department service activities. The successful candidate will be expected to meet University criteria related to research, teaching and service. The successful candidate will also be expected to adhere to UNLV Top Tier Initiatives regarding research productivity which include external grant support and publication in high impact peer reviewed journals. Anticipated start date will be August 2018.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
- Earned terminal academic doctorate or medical doctorate degree in an area of expertise related to physical therapy, rehabilitation sciences, applied or basic sciences, behavioral sciences, or neuroscience (specific research area within neuroscience is open and may include pre-clinical models or clinical approaches) from a regionally accredited college or university. The specific program of research is not as important as is the quality of the research program and the capacity to attract external grant support.
- Evidence of scholarship, including publications in peer-reviewed journal
- History of effective and successful grantsmanship
- Teaching experience in graduate programs
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills with diverse populations
- Ability to collaborate, solve problems and be flexible
- Demonstrated ability to learn, develop and apply new technologies
Preferred Qualifications
- Postdoctoral training
- Established record of extramural funding
- Leadership and administrative experience
- Current well-established extramurally funded research program that includes translational approaches to investigate connections between physical activity and neurobiological processes, physical therapy benefits in neurological disorders, and/or advanced quantitative analysis of neurobiological data (electrophysiological, genomic, proteomic) as it relates to physical therapy.
- Candidate whose research would overlap with established and emerging research programs in Las Vegas investigating neurodegenerative disorders or the growing neuroscience community at UNLV would be a plus; however, all candidates with a strong neuroscience research background will be considered.
- Active research agenda and/or clinical expertise in pediatrics, cardiopulmonary care, neuroscience, genomics, regenerative medicine, obesity, geriatrics, epidemiology.
- Interest in application of a program of research to an applied discipline such as Physical Therapy. Thus, a translational application to the individual's program of research will be important.
