The Neuromechanics of Mobility Lab (www.neuromoblab.com) in the Department of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at West Virginia University has an opening for a funded PhD position available starting Summer or Fall 2018. The position comes with tuition and a competitive annual stipend.
Research in our lab is focused on identifying how the neural, muscular, and skeletal systems interact for successful mobility, and how these interactions are affected due to aging, disease, and injury. Our work involves both laboratory-based human biomechanics experiments, and musculoskeletal modeling and simulation. More information can be found at www.neuromoblab.com. Our work is highly interdisciplinary, and you will have collaborative and academic opportunities across the College of Engineering, Health Sciences Center, and the WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute.
Strong computational skills (advanced mathematics, e.g., calculus and differential equations; physics; programming experience, e.g., Matlab or similar), and prior experience with experimental and/or computational analysis of human movement are strongly desired.
Interested applicants should contact Dr. Allen (jessica.allen@mail.wvu.edu) with the following:
(1) CV
(2) A brief statement of research interests and prior experience (up to 2 pages)
(3) Unofficial transcript
(4) Contact information for three professional references
(5) If you are not a national of a majority English-speaking country you will need to also submit evidence of your current proficiency in English.
