Summary
The Imaging Research Department Assistant provides technical, scientific, and general operational support to Imaging Research Department research projects, which focus on magnetic resonance imaging and other medical imaging modalities. The Research Assistant will support many aspects of Imaging Research Department research activities through various duties including: research project planning and design, data acquisition, data processing/analysis, manuscript drafting and submission, and preparation of abstracts/posters/presentations. Specific activities vary by assignment.

Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct research under the primary direction of the Director of Imaging Research and secondary direction of departmental staff and investigators.
- Collaborate with Imaging Research staff and investigators to plan and design sound research methodologies and experiments.
- Assist with preparation of new project proposals and Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocol applications.
- Assist with patient or healthy volunteer recruitment and scheduling for Imaging Research studies.
- Prepare cadaveric specimens and/or experimental setups for Imaging Research studies.
- Coordinate research projects and manage the timing of several concurrent projects using project management skills and collaboration with staff.
- Assist in the process of data collection and analysis using varied instrumentation and software; provide proper documentation and organization to ensure integrity and organization of collected data.
- Apply basic statistical knowledge; understand, interpret, and describe complex data by preparing graphs and tables.
- Participate in the preparation, review, and submission of manuscripts and abstracts for publication.
- Follow policies and procedures established in the SPRI Employee Handbook; adhere to SPRI safety policies.

Job Requirements:
Technical
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Biomechanics, Computer Science, Physics, Image processing, or related discipline. Candidates with a master’s degree or those in medical school are encouraged to apply.
- Research experience and practical knowledge of research principles is required whether through previous internship, work experience, or coursework. Experience in medical imaging research, with commonly used image processing tools and analytical methods, is preferred.
- Excellent critical thinking skills are required.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply the scientific method is required.
- Knowledge of orthopaedic terminology, human anatomy, and medical imaging modalities is preferred.
- Knowledge of image segmentation and processing software (e.g. Mimics, ImageJ, MATLAB) is preferred.
Administrative
- Must be adaptable to unexpected changes and possess strong organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and technical writing skills.
- Self-starter with willingness to make decisions independently and solve problems creatively within job scope.
- Ability to manage and complete multiple projects simultaneously while working under occasionally stressful conditions.
