    Applied Exercise and Sports Scientist

    Position Summary

West Chester University of Pennsylvania's Department of Kinesiology invites applicants for a tenure-track faculty position in Applied Exercise and Sport Sciences beginning in August 2018 at the Assistant/Associate Professor level. Actual starting salary is commensurate with experience.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Applicants must have an earned doctorate in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Kinesiology or related discipline. ABD with a guaranteed completion date no later than August 15, 2018 will be considered. In addition, applicants must possess a certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) or be eligible to acquire this certification.

    Preferred Qualifications
    One or more of the following certifications are preferred: 1) Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach from NSCA; 2) Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified from the Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA); 3) Sports Performance Coach through USA Weightlifting; 4) Functional Movement Screen Level 1 certification from FMS. Along with the certifications already listed preference will be given to that candidate that has: 1) demonstrated teaching at the college level 2) an active and recent scholarly agenda related to the field of applied exercise and sport science 3) experience mentoring and supervising undergraduate and graduate research 4) demonstrated college, university and/or community service.

    Responsibilities

    Teaching: Teaching responsibilities will include upper and lower division courses in Introduction to Resistance Training, Fitness Assessment and Exercise Prescription, Exercise Techniques and potential graduate courses in the Exercise Sciences. The candidate may also be required to develop upper and lower division courses, or graduate courses in his/her specific area of expertise as needed. The teaching load at WCU is 12 student contact hours per week per semester.

    Advising:
    To advise exercise science (Exercise Science Specialist Pre-Physical therapy, Pre-Occupational therapy, Pre-Chiropractic,) majors regarding academic planning and scheduling. Faculty must schedule 5 hours of advising/consultation time each week for students.

    Research:
    To establish an active, internally and externally funded research program involving undergraduate and/or graduate students. Faculty are expected to present results at national meetings and publish in refereed journals.

    Service:
    To contribute to the university community and the department by serving on committees, helping to recruit potential students, and performing other services as needed.

    General Information
    Approximately 14,500 undergraduate and 2,500 graduate students attend West Chester University (WCU), located 25 miles west of Philadelphia in scenic southeastern Pennsylvania. The Department of Kinesiology is comprised of two divisions: Exercise Science and Health & Physical Education Teacher Certification. The Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science is nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). There are 17 full time tenure-track faculty who are collegial, student-centered with an applied research focus. The Department of Kinesiology has over 950 undergraduate majors between the B.S. in Health and Physical Education and the B.S. in Exercise Science (with 4 different concentrations) and approximately 30 graduate students in the Master of Science program.
