The mission of the program is to promote excellence in education, scholarship, and service to inspire students and clinicians to be transformative physical therapy leaders. We are seeking a leader who recognizes the importance of values-based leadership and whose vision is consistent with emerging health care delivery. The candidate should have a demonstrated commitment to a shared governance model, exceptional faculty mentoring skills, creativity and enthusiasm to work with the ample resources of this SUNY campus. Collaboration with diverse communities both within and external to the institution is strategic to the whole University and its presence in the Syracuse Community. A student-centric approach to education, a thirst for continued personal and professional growth, and a willingness to collaborate with fundraising efforts are qualities sought in this leadership position. SUNY Upstate Medical University is committed to the principles of equal employment opportunity, affirmative action, and diversity and inclusion. Women, minorities, individuals with disabilities and veterans are encouraged to apply.

The program has a fixed class size of 40 students and is housed in a beautiful, new academic building that is also home to the nursing, radiation therapy and physician's assistant programs. Our graduates possess strong clinical skills and many go on to full-time residencies. Exceptional learning opportunities on campus and at more than 200 affiliated clinical sites are offered throughout the 3-year curriculum in the majority of the clinical courses to enhance the clinical skills and reasoning abilities of our students. Some examples include integrated practice exams with simulated patients at the end of the first and second years and integration of clinical patients in the majority of the clinical and elective courses taught by renowned national clinical faculty. The department provides an environment that fosters the development of focused, productive, and high-quality research programs for core faculty members and encourages students to engage in the discovery process. Opportunities for collaborative research are enhanced by Upstate's core research facilities. (http://www.upstate.edu/researchadmin/facilities/) To highlight a few, the Institute of Human Performance (IHP) is a nationally-recognized research facility with state-of the-art equipment including an indoor track, real-time motion capture and force plate capabilities, on-site imaging capabilities, high throughput genotyping expertise, and a SwimEx® pool. Additionally, to enhance both clinical and teaching options within the University, The Clinical Skills Center is home to one of the largest standardized patient facilities in the country and provides teaching and learning experiences to students and clinical faculty.

The 12 faculty are exceptionally self-motivated, engaged and committed professionals with a collective expertise and advanced credentials in 6 specialty areas. Three of these faculty have release time to conduct their individual research programs with the other faculty engaged in clinical research, practice and other scholarship.
