The School of Health Studies at the University of Memphis is hiring a Research Assistant Professor & Director of the Sport Performance And Health Consulting Center (SPAHCC).
The primary responsibilities as the SPAHCC Director will include:
1. Grow our clientele within the Memphis area, surrounding regions and beyond by establishing relationships with local rehabilitation clinics, high schools, universities (athletics), professional teams and other organizations
2. Develop new and expand current testing services including interventions for athletes/coaches and other clients
3. Conduct fee-for-service sports performance and health testing
4. Conduct externally funded validation and testing of training and/or testing instruments from private companies
Other responsibilities within the School of Health Studies will include:
1. Develop and organize one-day/weekend workshops, symposia, clinics for coaches, teams, athletes and clinicians on sports performance testing and training
2. Conduct sports science (e.g., biomechanics and physiology) research in fields related to ACL injuries, baseball injuries, concussion interventions, running injuries and other sports-related injuries/performance areas
3. Develop, with the assistance of other faculty, an online Sports Performance Graduate Certificate program
4. Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses (online or classroom)
5. Supervise SPAHCC undergraduate internship students and graduate students
6. Serve on graduate student thesis committees (member or chair).
A doctoral degree (ABD will be accepted) in Sports Science/Biomechanics or a closely related area is required. Extensive experience in conducting sports performance, biomechanical and functional assessment testing in various sports and populations, including but not limited to baseball pitching, running, golf, and/or ACL return-to-play is required. A strong background in sports and sports/exercise science and in designing, conducting and producing biomechanics research is required. The ability to teach undergraduate and graduate Exercise, Sport and Movement Sciences (ESMS) courses (e.g., introduction to ESMS, biomechanics, exercise physiology, exercise laboratory testing techniques), including online courses, and certification in strength and conditioning such as the National Strength & Conditioning Association Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (C.S.C.S.) is desired. Lab management experience and record of obtaining external funding for sport science equipment and/or instrument testing is desired. Outstanding oral and written communication skills are desired. Candidate must meet eligibility requirements to begin and continue working in the United States at the time of appointment.
