The Department of Kinesiology in the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences at the University of Waterloo is seeking an exceptional scholar and researcher for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of neuromechanics. In special circumstances, qualified candidates who are at the rank of Associate Professor may be considered.
The Department of Kinesiology is an inter-disciplinary department with expertise spanning the scientific study of human movement. A main focus of the department is to discover and explain mechanisms and principles of human movement and to apply this knowledge to the prevention of illness and injury using strategies that optimize health and physical performance. The successful candidate must have a PhD with evidence of an active research program within the area of neuromechanics of human movement. Candidates are expected to have a strong portfolio of scholarly research, evidence of ability to obtain extramural funding and demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching. In addition to advancing a personal research program, candidates will have the opportunity to work as part of multidisciplinary teams. Research opportunities exist not only within the Department of Kinesiology and its new 20,000 ft2 Applied Research facility but also within the several related research centres such as the Centre of Research Expertise for the Prevention of Musculoskeletal Disorder, Centre for Bioengineering and Biotechnology and the Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging. We welcome applications from individuals across a range of possible disciplines and research themes related to human movement including, but not limited to: biomechanics, neuroscience, neuromuscular control, muscle mechanics, bioengineering, biomedical science, sport performance, injury mechanisms and/or rehabilitation. Individuals planning to develop or having both a fundamental and applied focus of neuromechanics research are particularly encouraged to apply. Primary duties include research, teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level, and supervising graduate students.
Based on qualifications, the salary range for this position will range from $90,000 to $130,000. Negotiations beyond this salary range will be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.
