Our Research & Testing group develops test strategies, designs and executes ASTM, ISO, non-standard and biomechanical cadaveric tests as well as finite element studies, and consults with and provides top-quality scientific data to Product Development teams, Regulatory Affairs, Marketing, Quality Engineering and other cross-functional collaborators.

    While we are looking for the skills outlined below, we are pleased to consider exceptional candidates with a PhD or a Master's degree who have a strong publication record and hands-on experience in biomechanical stability testing in lieu of advanced FEA skills or prior industry experience.

    Job Description
    This position is responsible for assisting in product validation testing as well as designing and performing biomechanical evaluation of spinal implants, instrumentation, and materials using experimental and/or computational modeling techniques to support product development and research goals. Activities include:
    • Conducting mechanical testing following industry standards and internal procedures; critically analyzing data from testing activities and interpreting results; preparing clear and accurate technical documentation; navigating regulatory pathways (510(k), IDE)
    • Providing technical support to Development, Regulatory, Marketing and surgeon customers
    • Designing and executing mechanical and cadaveric biomechanical testing in applied spinal research environment
    • Performing non-linear finite element analysis, developing anatomic FEA models, and undertaking musculoskeletal kinematic analysis using commercially available software
    • Analyzing data from research and testing activities and interpreting results; preparing clear and accurate technical documentation
    • Working on complex issues of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires an in‐depth evaluation of variable factors; exercising judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results; critical thinking and reasoning within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action to solve complex problems and analyze/interpret data


    Basic Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical or biomedical engineering
    • Proficiency with solid mechanics and 2+ years orthopaedic biomechanical research experience
    • Advanced operation of testing systems (e.g., MTS, Instron)
    • Demonstrated technical computing skills (Ansys, Abaqus, Hyperworks, Anybody, OpenSim, ScanIP, Mimics, or equivalent)
    • Strong technical writing and presentation skills with ability to communicate test results to internal customers and regulatory agencies
    • Resourceful problem solver, detail oriented and organized
    • Ability to work within fast paced environment


    Preferred Qualifications
    Spine biomechanics experience
    Orthopaedic industry experience
    Software expertise (e.g., FEA, Matlab, LabView)
