    As part of a new scheme to fund collaborative research between The University of Queensland (Australia) and The University of Exeter (United Kingdom), a generously funded PhD scholarship is available to applicants from the UK, Australia and Internationals. The candidate will ultimately receive a dual PhD from the two institutions and will get to spend significant amount of time at both universities.

    Project overview – The PhD candidate will broaden and strengthen a multi-disciplinary research collaboration investigating the neuromechanics of high-intensity exercise in obese populations. The overarching aim of the project is to explore the utility, and potential neuromechanical barriers, of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) for improving the health of obese individuals. These findings will inform targeted exercise programs to enhance adoption and adherence to exercise in populations with obesity. Click here for further details on the project.

    The supervisory team – The primary base for this project will be in the School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Queensland, with Supervision from Dr Taylor Dick, Dr Shelley Keating, and Prof Jeff Coombes. A significant portion of the project will be undertaken with Dr Dominic Farris in Sport & Health Sciences at the University of Exeter.

    Funding - The successful candidate will receive excellent funding with full tuition fees paid, a stipend of $27,082 AUD per annum, a travel grant of up to $25,500 AUD across 3 years (for travel between institutions), and further research expenses of $3,000 AUD over the three year program

    The candidate - Applicants should be highly motivated and have, or expect to obtain, either a first or upper-second class BSc (Hons) or Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (e.g. Exercise science, kinesiology, biomedical engineering, rehabilitation sciences).
