Degree requirement:
PhD in Biomechanics, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent specialty
Responsibilities:
Perform translational or applied research, working independently under the mentorship of a senior scientist and an orthopaedic surgeon
Develop skills as an independent principal investigator through training provided by the mentor(s) combined with a host of other resources (conferences, symposia, course work, laboratory meetings, and attendance at national and international scientific meetings)
Participate in the supervision of research engineer(s) assigned to provide technical support to the fellow’s research project(s)
Participate in research training of biomedical engineering undergraduate and graduate students, medical students, and orthopaedic residents and fellows, who become involved in research projects, thus allowing the development of managerial and leadership skills
Participate in teaching biomechanical principles to biomedical engineering undergraduate and graduate students, medical students, and orthopaedic residents and fellows through presentations at meetings and conferences within the Hospital, thus allowing the development of teaching skills
Translate the findings from research projects into intellectual property aimed at providing solutions to improve the care of patients with foot and ankle problems
