    Assistant Professor - Environmental Health and Safety at Oakland University

    The School of Health Sciences at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, invites qualified persons with a passion for environmental health and safety and occupational injury prevention to apply for a full time tenure-track Assistant Professor position.

    The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) faculty offer both undergraduate EHS and Master of Safety Science Management programs within the department of Public and Environmental Wellness. Environmental Health and Safety professionals strive to identify, evaluate and eliminate or control hazards which expose people, property or the environment to danger or harm. Directly supporting the PEW mission of pursuing society’s big health challenges, the EHS programs provide students with relevant exposure to basic science, engineering and behavioral science knowledge, as well as experiential learning in environmental health, occupational safety and industrial hygiene practice environments.

    Areas of specialization sought include industrial and robotics safety, ergonomics and occupational biomechanics, construction safety, and EHS management. The desired candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to professional ethics in pursuit of experimental, translational, or community-based research pursuits.

    The successful candidate will have teaching strengths in environmental health, occupational safety, ergonomics or closely related health field, and will value use of diverse teaching methodologies (e.g., online, service-learning, multi-modal instruction). The successful candidate is expected to initiate and maintain a successful program of research, scholarship, service, and community engagement. Candidates must demonstrate experience with and a commitment to diversity and inclusion.

    The School of Health Sciences serves over 2000 undergraduate, masters, doctoral, and postprofessional students through a singular model of advancing community-engaged translational relationships, connecting theory to best practices in four thematic areas. Interdisciplinary Health Sciences – our undergraduate program in health sciences offers concentrations in nutrition,community engagement, interdisciplinary health, and pre-health professions, while the applied health sciences program offers degree completion opportunities for health specialized associate degree holders. Clinical and Diagnostic Sciences – includes medical laboratory science,histotechnology, radiologic technology, nuclear medicine and pre-clinical professions. Human Movement Science – the doctor of physical therapy and master of exercise sciences programs offer post-professional certificates and support undergraduate health sciences program concentrations. Public and Environmental Wellness – our comprehensive programs consist of undergraduate wellness and health promotion, undergraduate and graduate environmental health and safety, and the master of public health.     Oakland University is a nationally recognized doctoral research institution located on 1,443 acres of scenic land in the cities of Rochester Hills and Auburn Hills in Oakland County, Michigan.The University has 132 bachelor’s degree programs and 138 graduate degree and certificate programs. Academics include programs in the College of Arts and Sciences, School of Business Administration, School of Education and Human Services, School of Engineering and Computer Science, School of Health Sciences, School of Medicine and School of Nursing.

    Minimum requirements are a terminal academic degree (eg. PhD, DSc) in health sciences, or a related engineering, applied or behavioral sciences field; persons who are ABD, planning to complete their doctoral degree by August 15, 2018 are also eligible to apply.
