The Department of Physical Therapy, Faculty of Medicine, at the University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for a full-time, tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor with a primary research focus in musculoskeletal rehabilitation.
The Department of Physical Therapy is currently comprised of 14 full-time faculty members, including one Endowed Chair and 3 Canada Research Chairs, over 100 clinical faculty and 11 support staff. There are 160 professional entry-level students in the Master of Physical Therapy (MPT) program, as well as 36 graduate students and 13 postdoctoral research fellows supervised by department faculty. The department has a strong research culture with approximately $3 million of Primary Investigator grant funding from 2016-17. Physical Therapy faculty members have research affiliations with hospital-based institutes including Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute, Providence Health Care Research Institute, University-based centres and institutes, as well as many other collaborative opportunities.
Responsibilities of this position will include research and scholarly activity, teaching in the MPT program, teaching and supervision of graduate students, and academic service contributions. The successful candidate must have completed a doctoral degree in a field relevant to Physical Therapy. They will demonstrate evidence of strong potential in research, capability of providing instruction at the various levels in his or her discipline, and have a commitment to service. Postdoctoral experience is preferred. Preference will be given to applicants who can contribute to the teaching of the clinical components of the MPT curriculum as well as the overall clinical research within the Department.
