    The development of perceptual-cognitive skill, agility, and coordination in talented youth athletes

    We are looking for candidates for a full-time funded PhD studentship which stems from the collaboration between the Department for Health of the University of Bath (UK), and Bryanston School (www.bryanston.co.uk).
    This project offers a unique and exciting opportunity to develop novel research at the cross-section between motor control, biomechanics, psychology, and auxology, and the selected candidate will benefit from the supervision of a panel of experts from all the key areas of the project:

    The aim of this research programme is to better understand how perceptual-cognitive skill, agility, and coordination develop in young athletes. Using a combination of cross sectional and longitudinal designs, the proposed PhD studentship will examine maturity associated changes in agility, coordination and perceptual-cognitive skill, and the extent to which they contribute to athletic performance and injury risk in talented youth athletes. Of particular interest will be the impact of the pubertal growth spurt, and how to best manage young athletes during this crucial developmental stage.


    This collaboration between the University of Bath and Bryanston School aims to contribute towards best practice in the training, development, and conditioning of children and adolescent athletes. The successful student will be based at Bryanston School, and will have full access to their new multi-million pound high performance centre with 40-metre sprint track, dual force platforms, timing gates, and state of the art Qualisys motion capture system.

    Interviews are preliminary scheduled for Tue 26th June 2018. Candidates are asked to please ensure they are available on the interview date.
    The successful candidate is expected to start the studies by Sept 2018.
