Job opening at the Institute of Movement and Sport Gerontology
The Institute of Movement and Sport Gerontology at the German Sport University Cologne invites applications for an open position. The position is a tenured full-time position. The successful candidate will conduct own research, which needs to fit to the Institute’s research focus, as well as contribute to the Institute’s current research and teaching activities.
Profile of the desired candidate
Applicants should have a profound knowledge and expertise in quantitative research methods, specifically in movement analysis, signal analysis and programming (e.g. Matlab or Labview). Given the Institution’s research focus, we prefer candidates with a scientific track record relating to neuro-mechanical aspects of human movement performance and ageing.
Applications from candidates with a background in engineering sciences, movement or sport sciences, medical technology, or any closely related field are welcome. The successful candidate should have a doctoral degree and a scientific track record which is demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, experience in acquiring external funding, and successful university teaching. We expect the candidate to be able to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students, and to be committed to support the further development of research and educational activities at the Institute of Movement and Sport Gerontology.
Candidates should have an excellent mastery of the English language, candidates who do not have German language skills are expected to be willing to learn German.

The German Sports University Cologne is recognized internationally for its research and educational programs which range from education and humanities to social sciences and biomedicine. The Institute of Movement and Sport Gerontology is one of the Institutes of the German Sport University. In its research and educational activities, the Institute adopts an interdisciplinary approach to understanding age-related changes in physical activity and the effects of physical activity and exercise on physical and cognitive functioning. The Institute is embedded in (inter)national academic networks related to research into the prevention of age-related functional decline. As part of its educational activities, the Institute is responsible for a 2-year Master of Science program in “Sport and Movement Gerontology”.
