Engineer - Biomechanics Research

Responsibilities
Involved in multiple aspects of biomechanical research, as directed by the lab management. Focus areas include: finite element modeling, material testing, kinematic analysis, and modeling. Responsible for independently assisting customers in achieving the stated goals of the biomechanics lab research program. Customers include biomechanics research fellows, Mayo staff, and outside collaborators. Performs and troubleshoots data collection and analysis using standard techniques, and designs new methods for collection and analysis. Aids in interpretation of data; authors and co-authors grant proposals, papers and presentations. Trains and oversees work of residents/fellows/other lab personnel. Reviews literature and customizes techniques for lab applications.
Qualifications
Requires a bachelor's degree in an engineering or engineering-related field (such as physics, movement sciences); a master's degree in a mechanically-inclined engineering field is preferred. Research experience should be demonstrated in the focus areas of the biomechanics lab: finite element modeling, material testing, kinematic analysis, or modeling. Additional experience should be noted in several of the following areas: equipment design, orthopedics/anatomy, statistical analysis, imaging analysis, computer programming (Matlab, C, LabView).
Requires ability to work independently and with a variety of people at all levels both within and outside of the institution. Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are required. Must demonstrate multitasking skills, and serve as an appropriate mentor when needed. Must be able to apply analytical and problem-solving methodologies, and frequently seek continuous improvement of technological projects.
