The Texas Back Institute is seeking a Biomedical Research Engineer in our Gait Lab working with spinal disorder patients on a daily basis. The position will be responsible for the following: Collecting, processing, and storing clinical motion analysis and pain data; Set up and calibration of motion analysis equipment; Assisting with the coordination of field based research equipment, data and patients/subjects; Maintaining and augmenting software for clinical care and research; Programming new tools and analysis applications.
Essential Functions
  • Collection and processing of kinematic, kinetic, EMG, force-plate, and foot pressure data for clinical and research analysis.
  • Initialization, set up, and calibration of motion analysis, EMG, and foot pressure software systems.
  • Data management including data storage and organization for clinical and research projects.
  • Completing timely documentation as required by departmental and enterprise standards.
  • Completes all mandatory training which may include, but is not limited to safety, environmental, corporate compliance, HIPAA, bioterrorism, and program specific training.
  • Participates in conflict identification and resolution. Works cooperatively with other members of the team, as well as other Texas Back Institute associates.
  • Assists in maintenance of department space and equipment.
  • Professional Development: Independently seeks to expand knowledge and through literature, in-services, courses and mentorships.
  • Participation in Continuous Improvement projects. Actively contributes to daily management system.
  • Program Development: Stays current on technological aspects of position and develops ties with professional organizations. Excellent technical/computer skills
  • Participation in activities to increase program use, awareness and marketing.
  • Assist with on-boarding and training of students, department clinical staff, support personnel, and volunteers.
  • Presenting research studies at regional and national meetings and conferences.
  • Possesses trouble shooting skills of computer platforms, all software programs and all Gait Lab instrumentation.


Education/Skills required

  • Advanced education - Masters Degree preferred
  • Degree in Biomechanics, Biomechanical Engineering, or Kinesiology is preferred.
  • 1-2 years’ experience with motion analysis equipment including high speed video motion analysis system, force- plates, electromyography, and foot pressure systems.
  • Excellent Computer Knowledge and Skills: word processing, databases, and spreadsheets.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Displays a positive attitude and optimism about the organization and work to be done.

Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $18.00 to $20.00 /hour
