Research Professional position at the University of Georgia
The Department of Kinesiology at the University of Georgia (UGA) invites applications for two category four Research Professional
positions. We seek two highly motivated individuals with an interest in working with children with cerebral palsy. The positions are
4.5-year appointments, which may be extended with continued funding. The positions are supported by a grant from the National
Institutes of Health. We will be working with a variety of collaborators on this project, including the Emory Orthopaedics and Spine
Center and the Translational Research Unit at UGA. Primary responsibilities include overseeing the day-to-day activities of a randomized
controlled trial examining the effect of a daily vibration treatment on muscle development, physical activity and balance in children
with cerebral palsy. The Research Professionals will perform a broad range of management, administrative and technical duties
that facilitate the success of the project. Testing will involve magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry,
muscle strength assessment, electromyography, balance assessment, physical activity monitoring, blood analysis and other healthrelated
assessments.
Major Responsibilities:
• Oversee all day-to-day aspects of the study.
• Manage research personnel.
• Work with other research professionals and research assistants to facilitate participant recruitment, scheduling, testing and retention.
• Prepare and submit regulatory documents, such as IRB protocols, continuing reviews and adverse event reports.
• Use critical thinking to resolve complex workflow problems identified during study.
• Resolve questions, concerns, or unexpected problems from research participants and communicate pertinent issues to the PI.
• Interview patients for research protocols, validates eligibility to participate and evaluates pertinent commitment.
• Participate in the preparation of scientific abstracts, manuscripts and research proposals.
• Assist with explaining protocols to child participants and obtaining parental permission and child assent.
• Organize study team meetings.
• Troubleshoot technical issues or identify individuals with appropriate expertise.
• Oversee collection of compliance data at participant homes.
Qualifications:
• Preferred minimum is a Master’s degree in exercise science, kinesiology, biology, biomedical engineering or a related field.
• Experience working with clinical trials. Individuals with limited clinical trial experience but with strong technical skills are encouraged to apply.
• Outstanding management and organizational skills, ability to multitask and high attention to detail.
• Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with patients and staff.
• Experience working with children.
• Willingness to work on weekends.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in written form.
