  • PhD Position in Orthotic/Prosthetic Biomechanics at Univ. DE

A PhD position is available at the University of Delaware in the Orthotics & Prosthetics for Enhanced (O.P.En.) Mobility lab of Dr. Elisa Arch (https://sites.udel.edu/kaap/arch-lab/). The long-term objective of our labís research is to implement a personalized medicine approach to orthotic and prosthetic (O&P) device management in order to enable patients to achieve their highest possible level of function. To achieve this goal, we conduct biomechanics research at several levels of the continuum - from basic-level research to understand the interaction between O&P devices and the human musculoskeletal system, to applied research that develops and evaluates novel device designs and prescription models, to clinical and translational research that implements novel O&P device designs and prescription paradigms to enhance patient outcomes.

The position is available starting Fall 2019. The PhD degree will be through the Biomechanics and Movement Science Graduate program (https://sites.udel.edu/bioms/) at the University of Delaware, which is an interdisciplinary program comprised of faculty and students from the Colleges of Health Sciences, Engineering, and Arts & Sciences who use an interdisciplinary approach to research and graduate education

    Qualifications:
We seek a student with a BS and/or MS in kinesiology, biomechanics, engineering or related field with an interest in orthotic and prosthetic biomechanics. Experience with motion capture technology, device design, and or/ human movement biomechanics preferred. If interested, please send your resume/CV, your GPA, and a brief description of your background and interests to Dr. Arch at schranke@udel.edu.
