    Please see the attached announcement of a Research Position in the Design of Novel Cycling Mechanisms to Optimize the Efficiency ofFES-Assisted Pedaling.

    Main mission:With the goal of achieving bicycle-like devices for spinal-cord injured individuals, the objectiveof this post-doc is to design, build and test new possibilities for pedaling mechanisms. Thechallenge arises in that the pedaling capacity of a paraplegic or tetraplegic patient is limitedand very different from a healthy individual. The intended tricycle users mainly employ FES-stimulatedquadriceps to generate propelling force. The desired pedaling mechanism mustovercome dead-points encountered during the pedaling cycle while optimizing thetransmission of power. Thus, the designer needs to convert the modest amount of powergenerated by FES-stimulated legs into cycling power for a tricycle. Note that the individual inthis position is expected to work well with biomechanical engineers and experts in FES, butknowledge of these areas is not a requirement.

    The candidate will work in Montpellier (France) as part of the CAMIN research team,https://team.inria.fr/camin, under the supervision of Christine Azevedo and co-supervised byAndrew Murray from the University of Dayton (United States).
