PhD student in the Orthopaedic and Injury Biomechanics Group
The University of British Columbia, Orthopaedic and Injury Biomechanics group has an opening for a highly motivated applicant to join our group as a PhD student. Responsibilities will include testing cadaveric human femur-pelvis specimens in a sideways fall configuration. Various orthopaedic implants will be evaluated under the sideways fall scenario as well. The candidate will develop novel injury risk curves for the human femur and pelvis under sideways falls. PhD students in our laboratory do a modest amount of course work, they take and must pass qualifying examinations, they write and defend a PhD proposal after which they conduct research, write a thesis and defend the thesis before a panel of UBC and external professors. Duties will include academic publishing in peer-reviewed conferences and journals, and collaboration with academic, industrial, and government research partners. Qualified Candidates will have:

- MS or equivalent in mechanical, biomechanical or a related engineering discipline
- Experience in Biomedical engineering
- Candidates with impact and cadaveric tissue testing and design engineering experience will be preferred
- Good oral and written English communication skills are required
- Candidates should also have demonstrated experience in experimental design, and/or general safety equipment design.
