    The Ph.D. in Education, Exercise, Fitness, and Health Promotion (EFHP) Specialization is designed to prepare the next generation of kinesiology scholars. Students will be prepared with the knowledge, skills, abilities, and attitudes that will enable them to be professional leaders, educators, and researchers of consequence to impact and transform societal health and quality of life across the lifespan in the global community. As Virginiaís largest public research university, EFHP doctoral students at Mason have access to faculty who are internationally renowned researchers and scholars. In addition, George Mason University supports doctoral students in research and other scholarly activities with state of the art laboratory and other research facilities and a robust portfolio of research and academic support services.

    EFHP faculty research interests are conducted at the Sports Medicine Assessment, Research, and Testing (SMART Laboratory) in the areas of:
    ∑ Tactical Athlete Healthcare
    ∑ Youth & Scholastic Healthcare
    ∑ Lower Extremity Orthopaedics Research
    ∑ Research and Implementation of Injury Prevention Programs
    ∑ Gait and Running Research
    ∑ Epidemiology, Wearable Sensors, and Community Outreach in Youth Leagues
    ∑ Biomechanics and Bioimaging Research
    ∑ Strength and Conditioning and Exercise Physiology
    ∑ Performing Arts Medicine

    Funding:
    A variety of graduate assistantships and fellowships are available including conducting research in the areas of lower extremity orthopaedics, implementation of injury prevention programs, Gait/Running assessments, performing arts medicine, and biomechanics and bioimaging research. Graduate research and teaching assistant positions are also available. Contact the program for a complete list of funding opportunities.

    Requirements
    - Admission to the George Mason University Ph.D. in Education program, EFHP specialization
    - Masterís degree in Athletic Training, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or related field
    - Must hold current fitness certification such as ACSM, ACE, NAMS, NCSA, AFFA, NASM, or NFPT
