An exciting PhD studentship opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary team with surgeons and engineers to investigate flatfoot surgery in adolescence. In serious flatfoot cases, corrective surgery is necessary to relieve pain and prevent disability later in life such as joint arthritis. However surgical outcomes are variable. The successful PhD candidate will be working in the Biomedical Engineering Research Unit at Aston University, the Forensics Biomechanics Laboratory in Cranfield University and orthopaedic surgeons from the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital Birmingham to elucidate the key factors that impact gait performance and recovery post-surgery. The project will include gait biomechanics, parametric analysis and tissue analysis of patients undergoing musculoskeletal surgery.
