    Los Angeles Angels - Performance Scientist
    Job Description

    This position requires a highly motivated, thorough and dynamic researcher to contribute toward a scientific structure in assessment of athletic performance. Statistical inquiry and data visualization will assist the Director of Performance Integration, Director of Quantitative Analysis and Director of Sports Science and Performance in making informed decisions as it relates to training, treatment, scouting and coaching directives.

    Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
    • Design, develop, test, implement and maintain predictive models and metrics using appropriate tools and techniques stemming from variety of sport performance technologies
    • Work with the Director of Performance Integration, Director of Quantitative Analysis and Director of Spots Science and Performance to integrate new statistical analyses, applications, models and data visualizations to optimize team and individual performance
    • Participate in player monitoring procedures and action plans
    • Stay current with new predictive modeling techniques and evaluate their application in design
    • Synergize with player development personnel related to therapy, strength and conditioning practices, skill coaching, psychology and behavioral support services.
    • Collaborate with baseball analysts connecting off-field processes with competitive performance.
    • Assist the Director of Performance Integration in managing a small team of interns to assist in quantitative analyses and communications


    Preferred Qualifications:
    • A PhD or Master’s degree in a computational field such as: data science, mathematics, engineering, biomechanics, exercise physiology, quantitative social sciences, quantitative sport science, or analytics
    • Understanding of, and experience with, typical athletic and performance data structures, plus knowledge of current sports performance research, statistics, and strategy
    • Strong knowledge of statistical analyses, machine learning, and predictive modeling
    • Demonstrated experience with statistical software (Specifics: SQL, R, SPSS, Python, Matlab, Tableau and Microsoft Power BI)
    • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences
    • Experience with spatiotemporal analysis or Bayesian statistics
    • Experience with dynamical systems analyses or non-linear dynamics approaches
    • Experience with sport wearable sensor data—preferable, but not required
    • Experience in formulating, writing, and managing research grants/contracts – preferable but not required

    • Ability to provide evidence of previous analyses prior to interview selection
