    About Westfield State University:

    Westfield State University is a public, teaching-centered, liberal arts college located in Western Massachusetts approximately 90 miles from Boston, two hours to New York City, and 30 minutes from the Northampton, Amherst, and Springfield areas. With an undergraduate and graduate student population of 6,200 students, the institution is ranked #32 among public universities in the Best Regional Universities North section of the latest U.S. News & World Report "Best Colleges" list. It also has one of the highest six-year graduation rates among Massachusetts state universities.

    Westfield State was founded in 1839 by Horace Mann as the first public co-educational college in America without barrier to race, gender, or economic class.     The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester and there are opportunities to teach in the department's evening and on-line undergraduate and graduate programs. Faculty responsibilities include advising students, service to the University, College of Education, Health, and Human Services, the department, and the community, and an active research agenda.

    Job Description:

    The Movement Science, Sport and Leisure Studies Department is seeking an energetic, skilled faculty member with an earned doctorate in Exercise Science, Kinesiology or related field; ABD considered. The ideal candidate will possess relevant professional credentials and at least 2 years teaching experience. Responsibilities will include teaching Kinesiology (Applied Biomechanics) and Strength and Conditioning, and coordinating the Biomechanics Laboratory. The remainder of the teaching load may include upper level courses in Exercise Science and/or other courses in the department core. Additional duties may be assigned as needed by the department or University. The department emphasizes service learning and campus collaboration in support of the University mission of educating all in a diverse and welcoming community.
    Requirements:

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Earned doctorate (ABD considered).
    • Two (2) years of teaching and lab experience.
    • Academic and career advising experience.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Earned doctorate in Exercise Science related field.
    • Professional credential (NSCA, ACSM).
    • Three years teaching experience.
    • Demonstrated experience leading a laboratory.
    • Demonstrated experience advising students going into healthcare and performance related careers (PT, OT, PA, MD, RCEP, CSCS, etc.).
    • Demonstrated experience with undergraduate research collaboration.
    • Familiarity (awareness of) with requirements associated with accreditations in AT, EXS, and PE.
