    GENERAL FUNCTION:

    A. Position Overview
    This is an advanced research training post-doctoral fellowship funded by a grant from the US Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Community Living, entitled “Advanced Rehabilitation Research Training in Pediatric Mobility for Physicians and Engineers.” The training program is for 24 months.

    B. Essential Functions
    The postdoctoral trainee will experience a program designed to provide each candidate with a unique set of capabilities to succeed as a rehabilitation researcher. There are three essential elements into the training program (1) Didactics, (2) Mentored Research Areas and (3) Collegial & Collaborative Activities. Trainees receive extensive training and experience in proposal writing and the critical peer review process. Fellowship research requirements multiple journal article submissions, and collaboration and submission of extramural proposals.

    The program offers both directed mentorship research training and formal didactic components. This includes a cross-disciplinary course structure for all trainees. It also includes an away rotation at one of several research support laboratories. In addition, it provides an international clinical rotation through videoconferencing or an optional off-site rotation.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    The postdoctoral trainee will participate in all three elements of the training program, including:
    1. Completing the didactic requirements including courses, workshops, and seminars in in five in-depth areas, which include Evidence Based Research, Biostatistics, Outcomes Assessment, Scientific Writing and Grantsmanship, and Pediatric Motion Analysis., as well as practical research skills such as manuscript and grant writing, and IRB review mechanisms;
    2. Completing a directed independent research project in one of four research areas: Musculoskeletal Biomechanics and Biomaterials Gait Analysis and Mobility, Foot and Ankle Mobility, or Functional Assessment/Outcomes Measurement;
    3. Participating in Collegial & Collaborative Activities such as joining a national organization, submitting an abstract or short paper for a national scientific meeting, attending a national scientific meeting, completing an away rotation at one of several research support laboratories and an international clinical rotation, and giving two presentations per year at the ARRT meetings;
