Lecturer– Exercise & Sport Studies
The Department of Exercise & Sport Studies at Smith College invites applications for a half -time, benefits eligible position at the rank of Lecturer to begin July 1, 2019. This position is for laboratory instruction in anatomy, exercise physiology and biomechanics of exercise. Initial appointment will be for two-years with
potential to renew. Teaching responsibilities for this position will include:
* ESS 509 Musculoskeletal Structure and Function of an Athlete
* ESS 175 a newly designed exercise science laboratory experience class
* ESS 515L Physiology of Exercise and Sport Laboratory (2 sections)
* ESS 510L Biomechanics of Exercise and Sport Studies Laboratory (2 sections)
Occurs in opposite years with ESS 515
In addition to teaching, the lab instructor will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance of laboratory
supplies and equipment, developing guidelines and protocols to adapt research projects for teams of students in
laboratory classes and independent projects, as well as consulting with students to perform experiments, analyze
data, and troubleshoot problems.
Candidates should have a strong foundation in Exercise Science and candidates with experience in lab
instruction in the fields of exercise physiology and/or biomechanics are encouraged to apply, as are candidates
with experience teaching a diverse student body. A Master’s degree in an exercise science field or an equivalent
combination of education and lab instruction is expected by the time of appointment. Candidates from groups
underrepresented in Exercise Science are encouraged to apply.
