Project: An exciting opportunity has arisen to work on a PhD project exploring identity recognition and using soft biometrics. This collaboration between Defence Science & Technology Group and The University of Adelaide seeks to develop a technology platform that uses a combination of force platforms, depth sensors and video cameras to extract parameters unique to an individual with the goal of re-identification. We anticipate that the project will use machine learning techniques and we have, therefore, engaged with the Australian Institute of Machine Learning as a partner on the project. We are seeking strong applicants with a background in engineering (electrical/mechanical/biomechanical) or computer science to take on this project. Applicants must be Australian citizens. Candidates will be based at The University of Adelaide. The PhD comes with a scholarship of $30,000 per year (tax free).
People: The project will be supervised by A/Prof Dominic Thewlis in collaboration with colleagues from Defence Science & Technology Group, the school of mechanical engineering and the Australian Institute for Machine Learning.
All enquiries should be directed to Dominic Thewlis in the first instance (dominic.thewlis@adelaide.edu.au)
