    Pursuing our development in biomedical engineering, we are looking for a talented candidate to join our team as tenure-track assistant professor for a period of five years from 1st September 2019. Depending on performance and ability to achieve goals, the hired person may get a permanent contract during the five years. The missions will be to develop artificial intelligence (AI) to solve major problems of biomechanics and soft-tissue mechanobiology on which our team has already contributed significantly. For instance, the major problems of interest will lie mainly in the characterization and prediction of soft tissue biomechanical properties, or their mechanobiological interactions with medical devices. Our excellence in this field, thanks to our unique skills at the interface between experimentation and numerical simulation, has been recognized in recent years by two grants from the European Research Council (ERC) of 3.5m€, as well as many other industrial contracts and national grants. In order to meet new challenges related to patient-specific numerical simulation, an additional dimension, of great added value, will be provided by integrating the AI and big data (full-field measurements, smart devices, MRI, ultrasounds...). Harvesting and postprocessing of these massive datasets are also major challenges that we wish to meet in the context of personalized medicine.

    Candidates holding a doctorate in the field of biomechanics or mechanics of living systems, will have to demonstrate parallel expertise in the fields of AI and related fields such as real-time computational simulations or acquisition and postprocessing of massive data. Candidates with a PhD in AI, data science or mechatronics with significant experience in biomechanics, mechanobiology, bioengineering or medical device engineering will also be considered. Scientific production, motivation and ability to propose an ambitious research project will be the main selection criteria. International experience at the doctoral or postdoctoral level is highly recommended. Transdisciplinary research projects in collaboration with clinicians and biologists and/or relying on industrial collaborations will be highly appreciated. The hired person will join the Centre for Biomedical and Healthcare Engineering (17 faculty, 70 researchers) at Mines Saint-Etienne (https://www.mines-stetienne.fr/en) and will teach courses at the Master level in biomedical engineering and data intelligence. Even though the working and teaching language will be English, the candidate must in due time show a proficiency in French.
