The Motor Control and NeuroRecovery (Klab4Recovery) research laboratory at the City University of New York, Department of Physical Therapy invites applications for a grant-funded postdoctoral research fellowship position. The goal of the K-lab is to develop noninvasive rehabilitation strategies based on neurophysiological evidence for people with spinal cord injury (SCI). The position is supported by the New York State Department of Health, Spinal Cord Injury Research Board. The research project concentrates on the development of rehabilitation strategies for locomotor recovery of people with SCI, while utilizing state-of-the-art non-invasive neurophysiological methods, including but not limited to robotic gait training and noninvasive transspinal or transcortical stimulation.

Working in our [Klab4Recovery] multidisciplinary, energetic research team, the research fellow with a passion for real-life biomedical challenges will assume a major role in data collection and analysis for several projects in human movement and rehabilitation for individuals with spinal cord injury. Projects use a multidisciplinary approach involving electrophysiological techniques (EMG, TMS, spinal reflex conditioning protocols, transspinal stimulation), and kinematics (motion capture, force), combined with advanced signal processing and analysis to better understand brain-spinal function, impairment, and recovery following novel rehabilitation interventions.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:
-Setting up and operating equipment including Lokomat, EMG, TMS, and motion-tracker systems;
-Performing data collection involving research participants;
-Processing experimental data, developing new methods, computer programs, and data processing algorithms as required;
-Assisting with recruiting, screening, enrollment, and scheduling of participants; and
-Assisting with preparation of papers and presentations.

The following qualifications are required:
-PhD or MS degree(s) in signal processing/biomedical engineering, neurophysiology, rehabilitation sciences or closely related field.
-Specific interests and/or experience in the following areas: neuromuscular rehabilitation; brain and muscle electrophysiology.
-Prior research experience with human subjects.

Preferred qualifications
-Background and experience in signal processing and biomedical instrumentation.
-Strong computer skills with solid programming experience, particularly in Matlab.
