  • Computational Biomechanics, Full-time position at Zimmer Biomet, USA

You want to be part of one of the largest orthopedic company? You are passionate about biomechanics and computer simulation? You are an expert in the field and have already worked for several years in the orthopedic industry? Check this out!

    Research Principal Engineer

    JOB SUMMARY
The core responsibility for this position is to solve challenging R&D problems in support of global departments by means of computer simulation including mainly finite element analysis (FEA), morphologic analyses and multi-body dynamics/musculoskeletal modeling. The work encompasses supporting the development of new products, the maintenance of existing products, and the execution of research projects. The individual may supervise the work of subordinate researchers and interns, and act as a point of contact for the computational group with the other local departments. This position is located in Warsaw, Indiana, USA.

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Performs all phases of computational simulation on product performance, from formulating a protocol through documenting results, in order to address biomechanical simulation needs.
    • Provides technical assistance to other departments within Zimmer Biomet (Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, etc.) for the maintenance of existing products.
    • Designs and drives research projects. Presents the results internally, as well as in international conferences. Identifies opportunities to publish in peer reviewed journals.
    • Leads and participate in meetings related to the research and testing program, and provide timely and accurate reporting on project progress and completion.
    • Is involved in improving the efficiency of internal procedures and software resources.
    • Oversees software installations and licenses management for the local users.

    EXPECTED AREAS OF COMPETENCE
    • Subject matter expert in simulation methods, biomechanics and mechanical engineering.
    • Demonstrated ability to methodically investigate and resolve problems of any technical complexity.
    • Experience with commercial FEA software (ANSYS, Abaqus), CAD, patient specific modeling and computer programing (Python/Matlab) is required.
    • Experience with other tools relevant to preparing and solving problems in computational biomechanics (e.g., medical image analysis, machine learning) is desired.
    • Knowledge of testing standards related to computational modeling (FDA guidance documents, ASME V&V) is required.
    • Familiarity with software verification and validation is needed.
    • Maintains excellent presentation skills, and has the ability to work in a cross-functional team.
    • Publication track record is an asset
