NCB-Lab’s research is centred on human mobility and performance, with the overall goal of enhancing the quality of life of ageing individuals and those affected by movement impairments. Relying on engineering means and interdisciplinary collaborations, NCB-Lab’s team aims to positively impact prevention and rehabilitation by gaining a better understanding of the neuromusculoskeletal mechanisms of human movement, developing novel systems and outcome measures for movement and performance assessment, and designing and evaluating advanced assistive technologies. While NCB-Lab is located on the North Campus of the University of Alberta in Edmonton, it fosters strong collaborations with companies, rehabilitation centres, athletic teams and other research teams across the country.
The Position:
Dr. Hossein Rouhani, director of the NCB-Lab in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alberta, invites applications and queries for a Postdoctoral fellowship Position to develop, conduct and manage research projects in the area of development and implementation of autonomous, wearable technologies for remote health monitoring. This position will be open to a candidate who possesses a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Eng, Biomedical Eng, Electrical Eng, or Computer Eng. Applicants with keen interests and experience in signal processing, wearable technologies, artificial intelligence, control systems, machine learning, mechatronics, instrumentation, and/or software development are highly encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will be required to work independently and must communicate well in English. All candidates will be financially supported during the tenure of their program. This position is available to Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada, and international candidates. It is expected that the successful candidate will take up the position preferably in May 2019. This position will be for one year and can be extended to a second year.

- Conducting independent research on the abovementioned field of research
- Contributing to other R&D projects in NCB-Lab
- Mentoring graduate and undergraduate students
- Preparing research grant applications, manuscripts for publication, presentations, and reports
- Establishing and maintaining communication with collaborators
- Coordinating and managing research activities
